Developing Highly Effective Teams
“One man alone can be pretty dumb sometimes, but for real bona fide stupidity, there ain’t nothing can beat teamwork.” – Edward Abbey, “The Monkey Wrench Gang”
Group intelligence, in fact, does exceed individual intelligence and has no correlation with the intelligence level of the individuals! High functioning teams however, don’t just happen, they require work!
Developing highly effective teams:
- Make faster and better decisions.
- Have healthy debate and conflict that is not personal.
- Know how to hold each other accountable.
- Deal with adversity more effectively.
- Are committed to the success of the organization.
- Get better results.
Touchy feely mumbo jumbo with ropes will not create a healthy team. Focused interaction with a skilled facilitator to identify current reality, build trust, learn how to have healthy debates and ensure accountability, however, can have transformational results!
This goes beyond coaching the individual and looks at the entire team. Just like changing one ingredient in a complex recipe may not change the meal, team performance needs to look beyond the individual to enhance people, process and behaviors for the benefit of the team.
